Mandolin master Danny Martin was a founding member of the Grascals and this
release features mostly his original instrumentals. Terrific traditional bluegrass featuring
the likes of Kristin Scott Benson (banjo), Sam Bush (mandolin/fiddle) and Aubrey Haynie
(fiddle) as sidemen.
1 – (2:34) New Gil Ramble Slow-to-mid-tempo instrumental march.
2 – (5:28) Nighthawk* Mid-tempo modal tune, old-timey and fine.
3 – (2:52) Big Stone Gap* Fast breakdown, terrific fiddle & banjo playing.
4 – (3:55) Oh, Atlanta* Fine version of this tune, featuring daughter Jaelee Roberts on vocals.
5 – (4:23) F-5 Rag Another solid mid-tempo instrumental with good playing.
6 – (3:14) Coppinger’s Court* Slow-to-mid instrumental, a bit Celtic in feel.
7 – (4:07) You’ll Have That* Up-tempo instrumental, interesting chord changes.
8 – (3:14) Went Down A Beggar (But I Came Up A Millionaire)* Terrific spiritual, very fine.
9 – (3:41) Swing-A-Long* Bouncy swing tune w/Aubrey Haynie fiddling up a storm.
10 – (2:49) Walking To Winslow* Slower instrumental, another track with great playing.
11 – (3:24) Danielle’s Waltz Slow instrumental, just so-so.
12 – (2:31) Derrington Drive* Fast breakdown, very fine picking here.
13 – (5:33) How Great Thou Art* Another beautiful spiritual featuring Jaelee Roberts.
