Retro Soul / Southern soul / Roadhouse. Curtis Harding was born in Michigan but spent his childhood on the road singing gospel with his evangelical mother. They settled in Atlanta and Curtis sang back-up for a variety of acts including Cee Lo Green, Outkast and side projects with the garage band Black Lips. His music is very much retro southern soul, however some tracks have a rock likeness to the rolling stones or even roadhouse music. RIYL: JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, Nick Waterhouse, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield. FCC clean.
1. (4:30) ** Drums with much cymbal and strummed guitar, nice intro, good feel and pace, love song “We can start again”, horn section with chorus.
2. (3:40) **Mid/slow jam, super chill, love this song. Retro soul with a modern flare.
3. (3:23) *Moving, jangle guitar, horn section, great song.
4. (2:44) ***Soft groove, great bass with electric guitar solo, verse has clarinet, very chill, amazing song
5. (3:05) Upbeat, heavy drums with shakers, electric guitar, repetitive through verse. Chorus is “ohh ohh ohwhoa whoa..”
6. (2:16) Acoustic guitar intro, gets almost roadhouse,
7. (3:23) *Two guitars run intro, strum jangle in background with reverby front guitar playing melody. Cee lo Green-esque reverb laden vocals. Gets better when song is in full swing.
8. (3:43) **Interesting constant percussion, with strummed electric guitar, reverby electric lead, trumpet, great song.
9. (3:59) **Poppy guitar riff, heavy bass, and horn section, chill love song.
10. (2:58) Roadhouse blues, bass strut
11. (3:14) Chill soul song, classic horn section and funk guitar, falsetto vocals, bass solo
12. (3:52) Bluesy rock song, multiple singers, “It’s a cruel cruel world that we living in”
