Part 2 of 4 in Hyperdub's series of 10 year anniversary comps. This one focused on stuff that's slower and more R&B influenced. Everything here is solid to great (assuming you're into this sort of thing), though I don't think anything here is among my all-time favorite Hyperdub stuff.

RIYL: other hyperdub stuff, the recent influx of R&B influence on the electronic music spectrum

1: slow glitchy kicks, intermittent cymbals. high, slightly ethereal, slightly tart female vocals.
2: classic burial (it is off "untrue", afterall): tick-tocking and off-kilter rhythm section, hazy pitch shifted vocal samples, rain and other background atmosphere, slow-rolling jungle indebted bass line. a little melancholy (it is burial), but not totally sad. uplifting vocal and piano sample thing on the outro (like the rain clearing).
3: pulsing mid-range synth, flickering drums, warped/androgynous vocal sample for a bit at the start and also later. high and slightly reverbed female vocals throughout. definite influence from 90s R&B (esp aaliyah w.r.t. the vocals), but also very hyperdub. growling synth in the background at points, also some swirling bright synth in the background at points.
4: a slow R&B number. weird rhythm (in a good way), kind of halting for a couple bars then slinky for a couple bars. in a bit of an unusual twist, it's the other person and not cooly g with the unrequited feelings this time. this is a great song, but i don't love it as much as my favorite cooly g tracks (e.g. "landscapes" on the slow-burner side of things).
5: burbling drums and keys with vaguely watery sounds in the background. beat picks up a bit by way of some cymbals and additional snares a couple minutes in. mid-range female vocals weaved in and multi-tracked throughout. the whole thing continues to get bigger as elements are slowly added over the course of the song. beat kind of drops out for a while around 3-something. and then other elements fall away and it wraps up just around 4 minutes.
6: keys and vocals have that sound that you find in both mellow house and mellow 2-step garage, but the drum programming is definitely sparse/leftfield 2-step. female vocals throughout. drum programming reminds me a bit of ramadanman/pearson sound if RM/PS made stuff that slow.
7: sounds about like ikonika and dam-funk, in a really good way. definitely channels zapp and roger, and a little prince. presumably dam-funk on vocals. a little like mildly trippy chromeo.
8: rave&B. slow hoover-ish synths, big drums, ethereal pads. shimmery female vocals.
9: a more upbeat track. opens with mostly 808. high, ghostly, breathy female vocals throughout. other synth elements come in throughout the course of the song, sometimes dropping back out briefly. rhythmically, has that tick-tock feel that a lot of early 80s rap had, even though it's otherwise pretty lush modern electronic music.
10: kind of a deconstructed soul thing. funky sampled/sequenced drums. chopped strings, guitar, and piano. mid-range female vocals throughout ghostface verse (i think it's actually the a cappella from "milk em").
11: upbeat. vocals definitely channel mary j blige. instrumental feels like... rich, chiptune tropicalia? a bit of a loungey vibe, but i don't think anyone would confuse this for lounge music. i think daedelus would like this song.
12: channels 90s hip-hop/R&B in terms of vocals and atmosphere. drums are like jungle phrases that stop short, resulting in this kind of gentle lurching motion.
13: not quite footwork. has the same sort of drum programming, but the 80 bpm is the clear foreground, and the 160 bpm is clearly the background (as opposed to the reverse being true, or the two being equal). well, the bass line still has that faster footwork feel in parts. warm, gently emotive R&B vocal samples, with a little chopping and pitch-shifting.
14: percussion texture and programming nicked from the digital part of the reggae spectrum. splashes of neon synths. icy cooing female vocals.
