bright, pretty, wistful, ambient breakbeat stuff. appropriate that it’s out on four tet’s label with a remix by him, since the whole thing is very four tet-esque.

RIYL: four tet, aphex twin’s wistful/pretty stuff

1. big clattery drum break, pretty plucked strings. bells with a lot of reverb/decay provide some background atmosphere at points. strings and bells both get overdriven and filtered at points for some nice grit and distortion, bells moreso than the strings. reminds me just a bit of “on” by aphex twin (which is very high praise, in my book). drums drop out toward the end. 7:32
2. a remix of the first track by four tet. it already had a strong four tet vibe, and this remix is pretty subtle, swapping the sampled acoustic sounding drums of the original for slightly tighter drum machines (not that the original is super-messy, but it’s got a bit more swing). basically makes it a bit easier to work into a more straight-forward dance set, though both tracks are simultaneously both dreamy and propulsive. drums come back in after the drop out and it fades out. 6:59
3. skipping drums, growly but warm and inviting bassline, and watery ringing bells. clattery cymbals come in just around 1:00. something that sounds like a synth approximation of a horn starts weaving in and out around a third in. beat drops out and horn becomes more prominent in the middle. female oohs and aahs around 3:00, then the drums slowly start fading back in. 4:28
4&5. slowed (“screwed”, for the hip-hop fans) versions of 1 and 2, respectively (45 rpm record played at 33, plus 8%). mellows and extends the originals. 9:37 and 9:07

recommended: 1, 3
