Self-described "modern-jazz-meets-college-radio" Inside Voices weaves together guitar, bass, and drums with some great horn sounds, interesting melody lines, modulations with classic jazz motifs; really nice trumpet and alto, tenor, and baritone sax. It's a little derivative and the guitar sound isn't always great, but the quality of the horn playing and some of the melodies make it worthwhile listening.
Favorite tracks: 1 and 5
FCC Clean
1-Vanishing Point-(6:01) expansive with satiny saxes, meditative, Horn segues to treble guitar melody, circular melodies, ending a little drawn out
2-Fabrication (6:12) -- a little repetitive, dissonant, darker, weird timbre to guitar, nice horns
3-Liberty Bell (6:18) swing-y motif at beginning, interesting modulation, slightly weird transitions, guitar over-amped
4-Zombie Party (4:10) -- Lots of "noyz" a la Coltrane; patchwork of sound; punchier rhythm than earlier tracks
5-Map of the World (6:19) - mix of classic jazz and rock, nice dissonances; interesting modulation, horns over the melody -- sweet.
6-Mushmouth -(4:56) starts off swing-y, tuneful echoes of Basin St. segues into cool jazz and back
7-Everyone I Know --(3:28) acoustic congestion; uptempo
