Sickness To Insanity: Electronic Horror Scores Realized by Vision Heat 1982-1988 is a project by San Francisco’s Vision Heat, aka Jared Blum (GiganteSound, The Talking Book, Blanketship and Vulcanus 68). The idea is fascinating: a fictitious soundtrack compilation of some of the best synth based, B-movie horror themes and incidental music produced between the years 1982-1988 by a music production company operating out of the Eastern Bloc from1980 to 1988. What it makes it more believable is that all the music is composed using technology of the time - CMI Fairlight, Synclavier and DX7 synthesizers and treated in a way it actually sounds as if it had come out of a real low budget horror film from the 1980’s. Spooky, atmospheric and unique.
RIYL: Claudio Simenetti, Craig Safan, Wendy Carlos & Rachel Elkind, Charles Bernstein, and, John Carpenter & Alan Howarth.
NO WORDS, NO FCC’s.
Recommended Tracks: 2, 4, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, 17, and 22
1. (00:53) Mother (1987) - Opening Theme – Slow piece inspired by The Exorcist theme. Eerie.
2. (02:43) **The Hotel St. Croix (1985) - Main Theme – 80’s B-movie theme extravaganza. Amazing track!
3. (01:06) School Spirits (1984) - Under The Bleachers – Incidental music (Sampled voices and strange as fuck feeling).
4. (01:44) *Death Circus (1986) - Theme #2 – Incidental music (Being followed sensation. Nice campy synth part. Catchy).
