This is the third studio record from Nashville based Jessie Baylin. It is the first I have heard and it is absolutely incredible, not a dud on the record. She recorded it in collaboration with Richard Swift (responsible for crowd favorites such as the Black Keys and the Shins). Anyway, yeah everyone should listen to this and play it a lot. I would describe it as an updated version of Nancy Sinatra with some Sharon Van Etten, Beach House, Dusty Springfield…I don't know, it is amazing so you just have to listen for yourself.
FCC CLEAN!
Favorites: ALL, seriously.
1. (2:49) Creepers (Young Love) - Huge sound, distorted guitar, driving beat, killer melody, woah, I was in love with this record at first sound.
2. (4:05) To Hell And Back - Down tempo, echoey vocals, beautiful track.
3. (3:22) Black Blood - Uptempo, feels a bit more bubbly and easy.
4. (3:52) White Noise - Feels like this could be a track from the 60s, but at the same time it feels recent. Kind of awesome. Mid tempo, simple, great.
5. (4:29) Kiss Your Face - Mid tempo, synth, more distortion, more awesomeness.
6. (2:42) All That I Can Do - Starts with vocals only, builds into an upbeat poppy track, yeah it is great too.
7. (3:27) The Ringer - I don't even know how to describe this one, almost bluesy, mellow but urgent.
8. (2:59) London Time - Up beat, foot tapping, rock n roll.
9. (3:26) Lungs - Guitar strumming, simple beat, mid tempo.
10. (2:52) Dark Place - This reminds me a bit of Beach House in the phrasing of the lyrics and the tone of her voice. Another excellent track, down tempo and beachy.
11. (2:58) Do You Wanna Dance - Slow dance in the 60s.
