“EP” Zervas & Pepper
6-song EP from Paul Zervas and Kathryn Pepper, who are based in Cardiff, South Wales. The music is a throwback to the rock ‘n’ roll of the late 1960s from bands such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and even Fleetwood Mac. While it’s a tribute to this era, it’s also authentic. Not a cheap copy, but instead made with a love for the music coming from the West Coast in that era. The band has a new album called Abstract Heart. For some reason, we received this EP, with the first four tracks on the EP taken from that album. — Francis
Recommended tracks: 3, 4, 2, 5 No FCCs detected.
1. (3:52) Miller – Stop-and-go rhythm with strummed guitar, far-off crying electric, and rich Stephen Stills-like harmonies.
2. (3:52) We Are One – Female lead vocals soaring higher and higher, with male harmonies in this rockin’ Fleetwood Mac-like number. ***
3. (2:53) Foolish Dreamer – Ringing guitars and rich harmonies in a radio-friendly, driving-rock melody. Nice guitar solo in lead break. ****
4. (3:18) Abstract Heart – Another Stephen Stills/Buffalo Springfield tune. Sweet jangly and strummed guitars with emotive male vocals carry this lilting song. ***
5. (4:10) Sure Fire Bet – Flowing folk-rock with harmonized lead vocals.
6. (3:40) Cigar Store Indian – Instrumental. Guitars, steady drum pattern, rock ‘n’ roll flute á la Jethro Tull. Builds to a big drum solo at the end.
