Never heard of this guy but apparently he’s a British DJ/producer turned indie rockster. Now imagine he’s taken one of his own records, left it in a damp cellar for 7 years, and wiped mud in the grooves. Dubbed out, dark, and strange (but with moments of clarity). Really cool stuff…pleasantly surprised with this one.
Others: Sun Araw, Suuns, Chelsea Wolfe at the bottom of a well
Favorites: 8, 2, 10, 5, 3, 6, 7, 1, 4. No discernible FCCs.
1.(4:59) Echoey delayed vocals…guitar circles and circles same little melody. Almost glitchy looped outro and vocals bounce into distance. Someone had fun with a bunch of plugins…
2.(5:38) Subdued drums with periodic bell hits. Becomes totally warped and strange. No vox. Loads of synth, string, and reversed sounds
3.(5:39) Beatless. Cinematic and uplifting. Clear piano cuts through the synth wilderness. Borderline ambient piece
4.(7:26) Ghastly atmosphere. Glitchy textures usher in a techno-influenced beat (with neat stereo snapping). Meandering theremin synth play. Deconstructs itself in last ~1:30
5.(4:39) Damp basement music. Vocals make a reappearance. Drumless
6.(5:29) Wow the clearest recordings on here. Haze fades away for a pretty standard folk song. Really subtle electronics.
7.(4:59) Ghoulish fog machine ambient. Cool track
8.(7:57) Pedal steel guitar. Simple garbage drums cut through the haze. More vocals. Psychedelic. Impressive little vocal manipulation and with the beat reminiscent of James Blake’s full albums. Might be my favorite track?
9.(3:13) Ambient fuzz
10.(8:22) Folk influenced (but still all sorts of audio effects on this) version of a song by the band Suuns. This is actually super awesome…bear with the canned laughter...it’s in the original and to me it avoids kitschiness. Ambient last ~1:30
