electronic/experimental/dance/ambient

Four Tet’s new one is comprised of two long and rangy tracks, flowing back and forth between 4/4 beats, a bit of breakiness, and spacey ambience. Lots of reverb and echo, not as much glitch as usual. #1 hits the ground running, slowly decaying to something much more ethereal, but taking a winding route. #2 picks up where the first left off, staying spacey for the most part, and slowly taking off at the end. Good for transitioning from beat focused stuff to ambient stuff, and vice versa.

1. steady 4/4 boom/tick pulse, woodblocks slowly fold in then bassy synth smears. pretty female singing with Indian accent, quiet slow strings (or a pretty good synth approximation). kicks drop out for a bit and return around 5:00, then additional synth swirls and a bit of glockenspiel. steady kick leaves a couple minutes later, gets replaced by bigger hollow breaky thing, melodic elements pare back. then beat pares back to just ticks and original synth wash creeps back in, followed by vocals and strings. later, steady pulse comes back, with different elements slowly fading in and out. beat leaves entirely for the last quarter, rich bright synths stay, dissipate to nothing, *beware quiet last :30*. 20:24
2. rapid woodblock bubbling, panned occasionally. bassy shadows ebb and flow. tentative bright melodic streaks. then, thick slow bright mid-range pulses with a bit of growl. fades into wordless vocal runs with Indian accent, and bleeps, with generous reverb. bass and vocals and synth slivers ebb and flow and pulse in a pleasant dusky haze. then a bit after halfway, the tide slowly recedes all the way, then slowly comes back in, with a couple minutes of galloping snares, followed by steady 4/4 kicks that inject a low-key but insistent groove into the ambience. slow fade out. 19:53
