Ethnically Greek violinist Elektra Kurtis grew up in Poland and was educated in Finland; she plays her own original compositions with her quintet; unusual, lively with lots of disparate parts
No FCC's
1-(4:03) Triton – lively, jazz-like; lots of violin riffs backed by bass
*2-(4:05) Hasaposerviko – sounds Middle Eastern modal; moves up and down scales; Greek dance rhythms
**3-(4:21) Red Apple – violins play duets with percussion, Polish dance theme, nice little reprise at end
*4-(5:37) 334 – “chromatic, angular play on rhythms”;a little choppy, dissonant, but interesting
5-(2:46) Trebble Duo Nr. I- more Middle Eastern modes with violins
*6-(4:43) Zeibekiko – Greek dance done in an avant garde style
*7-(4:27) August 7 – a journey to the Underworld – mysterious with violins and clarinet and percussion
*8-(3:03) Eastern Caravan – inspired by tango and gypsy music
9- (4:14) Like Rocks ---starts with drumroll and bass; spoken words under music
*10-(4:13) Kalamatianos – more Greek and Arab melody with 7/8 rhythm; nice clarinet part
11-(3:26) Trebble Duet Nr. 2 – two solo violins
*12-(5:51) Krakkus – heavy-duty percussion with violins playing somber Polish-inspired melody
*13-(4:02) East West – more dance-like rhythms
14-(4:15) Bossa For Kitsa- lively
15-(3:48) Trebble Duet Nr. 3 – more violin duets
**16-(5:14) Summer's End-almost tuneful :-) klezmerish
