The 2015 edition of PDX Pop Now! Another great collection of Oregon bands from pop, to rap, to folk, to instrumental, lots of good stuff on here. It is a 2 disk set, so I gave it 2 keys and 2 separate reviews to make finding tracks easier.
Disc 1 FCCs: 8, 18
Recommended from Disc 1: 1, **3**, 4, **6**, 12, 14, 19, 21
1. (4:37) *This is what I wish the new Surfer Blood record sounded like, great track, great sound, easy listening.
2. (1:19) Garage rock, choppy, simple, good track, not great.
3. (3:32) **AMAZING!! This girl’s voice is incredible, simple melody, 3. infectious, great instrumentation, yeah one of my favorites.
4. (3:35) *Simple alt-rock track, mid tempo, piano, distorted guitar, bongos and maracas, i actually really like this one too.
5. (2:56) Mid tempo rock track, nothing unbelievable but another solid song.
6. (4:38) ** Girl group, think dum dum girls, or pipettes. Awesome song, another of my favorites.
7. (3:25) Electronic sound, soulful female vocals, almost disco-y.
8. (3:27) FCC FUCKING Another awesome girl group, similar to track 6, love it, mid tempo retro feel, unfortunately it is also profane.
9. (3:25) strange lyrics, super distorted, almost reminds me of Ween.
10. (3:47) Another dreamy indie girl band.
11. (6:05) Instrumental track, cool instrumentation.
12. (3:48) * Super cool track, interesting female voice, certainly not generic. Lots of awesome polyrhythms and cool instrumentation. Mid tempo and very pretty.
13. (4:19) This is pretty awful, sounds like indie rock tries to do disco…yeah no good.
14. *(2:26) Vintage King Tuff feel.
15. (2:26) Lo-fi, great melody.
16. (2:55) Girl punk.
17. (4:06)Blue eyed neo-soul.
18. (3:10) FCC FUCK Really good hip-hop track, can’t play it though.
19. * (5:26) Soulful female vocals, piano driven, cool melody. Instrumentation almost reminds me of a track from Hunky Dory.
20. (3:32) Dramatic, feels like a song from an old western movie.
21. (3:42) * This could have come out of the Rocky Horror Picture Show…it is awesome, super weird but really good.
