Brilliant Beast are a shoegaze band from Minneapolis led by two sister/brother vocalists. Dissolve amps up the reverb from their debut EP from 2013, Where Do You Want, with more cues from classic shoegaze. Songs range from shoegaze to garage to the Run for Cover style of emo but are rooted in reverbcore. Shoegaze tracks tend to be more aggressive, comparable to Catherine Wheel and Swervedriver. The vocals alternate between male and female, are largely masked beneath layers of sound, and tend to be pretty dreamy and hard to discern lyrically. The female vocalist sounds eerily similar to the vocalist from No Joy. Guitars are gorgeous throughout.
RIYL Bethany Curve, No Joy, Ringo Deathstarr, Tamaryn, Yuck
Favorites: 2, 3, 5, 6, *8*, 10

1. (5:46) Adult Sun - So much reverb. One minute ambient intro, starts off slow and then builds in heavier, shoegazey guitars. Hazy vocals. Sounds like Bethany Curve.
2. (3:12) ***Like Dreaming - Uptempo. Female vocals that sound like the vocals from Drop Nineteens. Super driving. Lyrics mostly about how “it’s like dreaming”.
3. (2:43) *Fleece - Very guitar-driven. Less heavy on the reverb. Another driving track. Gorgeous new guitar solo at 2:03 that steadily builds in passion and feedback.
4. (1:58) Stockholm 10 - Noisy guitars. Sleater-Kinney vibes. Kind of a sludgy track with not much variation. The overwhelming reverb and noise seems to drown out any interesting technical decisions and lyrics on this track.
5. (2:15) *Tracer - Chiming guitars. Male vocals that sound like Jeff Mangum which is a bit disorienting at first. One of the more middle-of-the-road tracks here. Similarities to the sound of a lot of Run for Cover bands. The soundtrack to a late night pining after your Bilinda Butcher who never was.
6. (4:36) ***No Fate - This is suuuuuch classic shoegaze. Heavy guitar-laden anthem, fast percussion. Female vocals reminiscent of early No Joy. Great subtle bassline that complements the guitars nicely. Guitars go wild in the background in the last minute of the track. PLAY THIS.
7. (3:10) Absentee - Garage track. More fast percussion and guitars. Feeling that Replacements x Sleater-Kinney influence. Anthem of youth.
8. (2:59) *****Favorite House - Dirge-like intro with gorgeous, chiming guitars. Steeped in reverb. Both vocalists on this track. Lyrics that seem to be about a light that never goes out (hey, Morrissey). These guitars are something else. Stop everything you’re doing and play this right now.
9. (2:44) Hungrier Skin - Some post-punk influence. More gorgeous shoegaze guitars. New, dominant guitar line at 2:08 that reminds me a lot of “Lean” by Whirr.
10. (3:50) ***Do You Think You Could Love Me Forever - Slow-burner. Guitars build in layers of noise at 0:50. Strongly evocative of ultra-shoegaze early Tamaryn.
