Indian and Western musicians collaborate on violin, tabla, sitar, guitar, keyboard and pads to to produce lush, satisfying music that sounds classical in its virtuosity but is more than that compositionally; lots of jazz influence
Favorite tracks: 4, 5, 7; all instrumental
1- 7:35 – comfortable rocking tabla beat, violin melody; melodies circle around and over each other
2-10:22 – slower, less melodically or rhythmically driven, contemplative; more western jazz influence; keeps morphing as it goes on, becomes periodically quite percussively intricate
3-5:06-- more Indian sounding, but with much more texture; happy, upbeat with lots of percussion
*4—6:23 – more Indian, bent quarter note sound, nice tabla, layers of melody and rhythm
*5-13:12 – “Vishnu's Spaceship” starts with interesting sprung sounding bass notes; lots of sound effects; fun and mysterious; steady beat
6-11:07 - “Beatnosis” – psychedelic Indian, pretty repetitive (trance-inducing?); hypnosis via rhythm; interesting sound effects (celesta-like); gets more interesting and western-sounding last quarter
*7-11:07- “Journey Home” – nice slow beginning; fiddles provide Indian component, guitar background more laid back; relaxing but interesting in the way it progresses, mixing Indian and western scales
