Genre: minimal techno, minima techn, minim tech, mini tec, min te, mi t, m ,
Ascetic techno—all clicks and clacks and negative space. Chevel possesses an incredible attention to detail and willingness to subvert techno norms (this guy lives in the offbeat). Perfect for nighttime reflection or daytime introspection.
Others: Laurel Halo, Actress, Lee Gamble, Objekt
Favorites: 8, 4, 10, 6, 2, 7, 11, 5. No FCCs.
1. (4:08) Comb - Ominous bass scrapes. A dense, psychedelic swirl. Beat drops out for a trudging middle interlude. The pace picks up again, yet the mood remains menacing and enigmatic.
2. (4:20) *** Windrunner - Metallic percussion. Ghastly windy textures. Detailed, groove laden track.
3. (3:51) Down and Out - Clicky, minimal. Sparse bright chords. Finds its footing midway through.
4. (4:37) *** Low Roof - Bassy ripples. Queasy atmosphere. Really cool drum programming.
5. (4:05) * Watery Drumming - Slow, subtle start. Picks up a beat; “watery drumming” is an apt title actually.
6. (3:29) *** Heimweh - Drum machine fun. Slightly dissonant synth chords. Somewhere between wakefulness and slumber. One of the more melodic tracks.
7. (4:17) ** Flippant Remark - Heartbeat pulse. Barren, frozen pause. Then bursts forward into a driving groove. Cool track.
8. (4:05) *** Identity Switch - Nearly danceable 4/4 groove. Awesome little melodic textures slip through the cracks like radioactive ooze. Favorite track?
9. (4:07) Loop #42 - Shimmering, mysterious loop. Robot meditation music.
10. (4:01) *** Stranded - Shuddering, immediate start. Industrial found sound quality to the percussive elements. Off-putting, captivating track.
11. (4:06) ** Loop #33 - Delay heavy beat. Whirring, airy chords. Moody…robot make out music?
12. (2:49) ** A Form of Love - Very faint beat. Crystalline notes float through the sky. Soothing ambient closer.
