“Heart Attack” The Pooches
The Pooches are an alternative rock band with Brit-pop tendencies from Glasgow, Scotland. This EP is filled with catchy melodies; sunny, jangly guitars; sharp, clean drumming; and lighthearted lyrics. There’s a throwback feeling that dates to the original British invasion of the 1960s, with bands such as Herman’s Hermits, The Yardbirds, The Dave Clark Five, and Chad and Jeremy. Today, the Pooches are RIYL Belle & Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub or similar groups. Beware: when you play a cut from this EP, be ready with your next track. No song is longer than 2:29, and two are under two minutes!

Recommended: 1, 3, 4. No FCCs detected.
1. (2:16) Heart Attack — Sunny, bouncy, slightly jangly pop-rock. Great hooks. Handclaps! Lyrics reference the band, Heart Attack, a hardcore punk band from NYC that was popular from 1978-1984. ****
2. (1:49) Crab Hammer — Skippy, fun melody with chugging guitars and bass line.
3. (2:29) Pierre — Caribbean flavor colors this catchy ditty. Great stop-and-go drumming punctuated by sharp, crisp guitars. Lush harmonies. ***
4. (1:51) Rhythm of the Rain — Fantastic jangly cover of the pop/doo-wop standard made famous by the Cascades in 1963 and covered by Gary Lewis & the Playboys six years later. Rich, jangly guitars. Sweet harmonies. ***
