Late 60's and early 70's music from Cape Verde where a bunch synthesizers were shipwrecked offshore and appropriated by the inhabitants; called “Classic pop archeology” by The Guardian; mixture of African and Portuguese
NO FCC's, Favorite tracks: 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14
1-(4:28) – “Pinta Manta” – sounds African but the beat and synthesizer give a kind of bolero effect
2-(4:37) “Dia Da Mancha” – piano intro w/call and response
*3- (5:23) – starts w/drum solo; horns come in; synths; organ; mysterious, rhythmic, tuneful, happy
*4- (4:16) – trumpet, glissando start, nice rocking rhythm, very Portuguese sounding lyrics; interesting acoustic effects
5-(5:02) – “That Day” – electric guitar begins; English lyrics; Cape Verde style reggae
6- (6:04) – unusual melange of synth sounds, rocking beat, speeds up, fast dance music
*7- (5:53) --”Mino Di Mama” – nice singer; cool accompaniment
8-(3:05) – “Mundo D'Marguro – Caribe type sound
9—(5:38) – 60's style rock segues into island sound; drum solo
*10-(3:08) – call and response in Portuguese, catchy rhythm
*11- (3:50) – horns with singing; call and response; tuneful
*12- (2:53) – treble synths open; happy-sounding
13-(3:15) – more Caribbean sounding
*14-(7:21) –makes you want to get up and dance; nice piano work, catchy, syncopated
15 – (4:31) – descending chords intro; reggae sound
