New York based percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez jams with other well-known musicians to produce music celebrating his Cuban-Yoruban roots; lots of variety and texture; nice, clearly articulated lyrics for the most part; very high quality production with musicians who sound very comfortable together
No FCC issues; All tracks are good; Favorite tracks: 2, 3, 6, 7
1 – Mi Tempestao –6:12 – with Wynton Marsalis –upbeat w/vocals in Spanish and English; segues to rap and then to rad trumpet solo; something for everyone
*2 – Compa Galletano – 6:35 –w/Ruben Blades – traditional song with cool percussion and close harmony; jazz piano and synthesizer organ; very lively
*3 – Dios Mio –4:46 – old bandmates get together and continue the conversation – piano, lyrics – think upbeat modernized Buena Vista
4-Recuerdos-- 4:45 – Juan Mesa salutes rumbero ancestors from Matanzas
5 – Encantamiento Yoruba –3:01 – chanting and singing together in Afro-Cuban style
*6 – Tributo a Santiago de Cuba – 6:06 – anthem backed by piano with harmonizing chorus and Angélique Kidjo singing in Yoruba
*7 – Antadilla – 3:32 – pretty vocals by Ruben Blades with expert trumpet riffs by Wynton Marsalis, Juan Wust on guitar
8-Tuve una Revelacíon -6:26 – shades of Buena Vista updated – great harmony, percussion, etc.
9 – Habana Dreams – 5:34- slightly slower and mellower, but not too much; lots of nice rhythms
