SF’s insanely prolific psych/kraut/garage masters return with more dark driving totally rockin’ krautrock-inspired jams. Many songs on here fall into the classically great and distinctive Thee Oh Sees domain, but my personal favorites were the more far-out tracks that tend towards atmospheric psychedelia. All are great, no FCCs detected.
1. (3:28) *** Dead Man’s Gun—Dark driving motorik, classic Thee Oh Sees
2. (3:06) ** Ticklish Warrior—Dense grinding guitars, drowned out barely-audible vox, blood pressure rising, all guitars in last minute
3. (5:21) *** Jammed Entrance—No words. Bass jam with phenomenal drumming, weird 80s hyper-digital matrix synths, organ, really ethereal outer-space journey
4. (5:40) **** Plastic Plant—Another classic Oh Sees track. Driving guitars, whispering vocals, colliding chaotic, multiple sections of crunchy soloing
5. (3:27) ** Gelatinous Cube—Loud, propulsive, dark, bass-driven, howling. “ah ah ah ah ah”
6. (4:27) *** Unwrap the Fiend Pt. 2—No words. Psychedelic turn of things. Jangly guitar intro, then some really bright searing guitars that alternate with calmer chiller dazed guitars
7. (7:50) **** Crawl Out into the Fall Out—Spacey, pensive. Spooky one-minute ambient intro, then organ, synths, and strings in a sprawling, vaguely Eastern psychedelic meditation. Very 60s, reminds me a lot of this great band called Gandalf
8. (6:11) *** The Axis—Retro psych pop, sorta Beatles. 60s guitars, organ, hazy faded drowned-out vocals, melancholy. Multiple guitar lines with a bluesier one that comes in at times. Heavy guitar distortion in last minute and a half. Love it!!!
