Texas’ True Widow are one of the progenitors of “stonegaze” (stoner rock + shoegaze) and on their newest release they’ve continued moving away from their dream rock roots towards a heavier, near-metal sound. I can see them going full metal someday. Tracks all blend in to each other and sound similar. Recommended for fans of Boris, Carlton Melton, “taking cough syrup with jack daniels” (TM Your Imaginary Friend)
1. (4:22) ** Back Shredder—Total metal savagery with desperate male vox
2. (4:39) *** Theurgist—Searing head-nodding rock, male vox
3. (5:16) *** F. W. T. S: L. T. M.—Dreamy plod, male vox, echoes of the As High As The Highest Heavens… sound
4. (5:15) The Trapper and the Trapped—Male and female vox, crunchy guitars, really heavy nearing metal
5. (5:43) ** O. O. T. P. V.—Slow, dense riffs and steady drumming, distant dreamy male vox, intense
6. (5:47) ** Entheogen—Slow, quiet rage, low near-spoken male vox, guitars dominate
7. (1:56) To All That He Elong—Lo-fi acoustic interlude that hints of Cobain
8. (3:52) ** Sante—Really fast-paced for them. Female vox and ripping distorted guitars
9. (3:25) Grey Erasure—Sounds like an especially sludgy “Back Shredder”. Mid-tempo with those same guitars
10. (6:01) **** What Finds Me—Swaying mid-tempo guitar pop, brief soaring male and female vox in the beginning give way to several minutes of thrilling guitars. Eerie 1.5 minute ambient outro
