It is always a major compliment, especially to a living artist, when an album is made to celebrate that artist’s contribution to music, and that is just what this is. A celebration, an homage, a statement about the mark that Emmylou has made on country music. Recorded from a single show given in honor of Emmylou (she even sings on #9,10, 11 and 19), My faves were 1, 2, 5, 14, **16, 18.
1. med- Classic country sound with Buddy Miller’s voice echoing Emmylou’s tone
2. med- Great blues version of this country classic by Mavis Staples
3. slow-mellow country anthem sung by Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson
4. slow- Holly Williams beautiful voice highlights back up by Chris Coleman
5. slow- vocals by Steve Earle dominate this semi-spiritual
6. slow – soulful singing by Lucinda Williams 7. med- honky tonk style
8. med- unique music at beginning opens Lee Ann Womack’s quintessential twang
9. slow/med- love ballad with the real Emmylou, nice banjo and fiddle
10. slow-also real Emmylou
11. slow- Emmylou’s clear vocals dominate song
12. slow- spiritual
13. slow- Martina McBride sings a love song
14. slow- Patty Griffin sings with her beautiful voice
15. slow- Vince Gill’s distinctive voice on this honky tonk classic
16. med- Vince Gill’s twang infects Sheryl Crow, making her sound 100% country
17. slow- Kris Kristofferson’s aged voice
18. slow- Alison Krauss’ clear voice with beautiful inflection
19. slow-perfect end to album-slow ballad by Emmylou
