SOUL JAZZ
Here’s funky, soulful instrumental jazz. This resident band at a jazz club in Kansas City, led by Chris Hazelton on organ, also includes trumpet, saxes, guitar, drums, perc. It’s a lot of fun. The live recording has a smattering of light applause following solos and at finishes.
All instrumental. No FCC issues.
1 * Mid-fast. Lively, danceable set opener to get the crowd on their feet. Solos by organ, tenor sax, guitar, organ. (5:33)
2 ** Mid-tempo. Opens with funky organ & rhythm guitar. Horns enter as a section. Long solos by tenor sax, trumpet, organ. Full band takes it out. (7:18)
3 Mid-slow. Easy going stroll. Bluesy theme alternating on organ & sax. Pleasant enough piece but never gets anywhere. Would make a good sound bed for a mic break. (6:37)
4 * Mid-fast. Good long solos by tenor sax, trumpet. Bouncy organ accompaniment. (6:19)
5 Fast. Horns open it. Solos by guitar, tenor sax, organ. A bit generic sounding.Last 2 mins are repetitive. (7:02)
6 Mid-tempo. Justin Timberlake’s big hit turned into an old folks’ dance at an Elks Club dinner. Melody sounds goofy on organ. (7:45)
