Girl band (trio); multi-instrumentalists and singers with fabulous close harmony and very rich musical vocabulary from Amsterdam; quirky lyrics; fresh sound with synths and acoustic harmony; recurring motif is “trains” and train rhythms; acceleration and deceleration; very unique CD; all tracks worth listening to; crosses a lot of genres (folk, pop, jazz, experimental, world)
NO FCC's; Favorite Tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9
*1- Businessmen – businessmen arriving on the commute coming toward you – scary vibe with interesting instrumentation; “no joy, no love, no heart”
2-Choo-Choo Train – great harmony; train sounds with arrangement; lyrics w/train metaphor segues to “hush little baby, don't you cry”; really chugs along and then slows
*3-Any Way – “Are you chasing your own tail?”
4-There Becomes Here – slower with sustained harmony opener and then speeds up and becomes punchier
**5-Isabelle – in French; great horns; Dutch mariachi?; lots of weird and crazy noise in the background
*6-Track 22 – “Why am I your girl when all you do is play with your trains?”
*7-Rolling Away – great swingy banjo number
8-Pi – bass sets up rhythm; nonsense lyrics features alliteration of “p's” that also set up rhythm
**9-Going My Way – softer, lyrical backed by mellow horns
10-Little Piggy Takes the Train – a bit of coda with steel drum, train whistle and didgeridoo?
