COLL: Dollydeluxe2 Label : Dolly
The second in a series of wonderful EPs by German-based label Dolly Records. Like the first Dollydeluxe1, this is a collection of interesting abstract & experimental techno & breaks. But this EP has a strong "retro" feel that brings back sounds of the 80s. The strongest tracks were (#1) "Sound Moments" by 214 and (#4) "Sound of Distance" by Volski.
1. 214 - "Sound Moments" (5:38) -
Creepy and yet super-cool electro-funk. That bassline is slow, deep & funky, and it's layered with various textured organic sounds & synths.
2. Answer Code Request - "Forking Path" (6:02) -
Spacey track with an 80s feel to it; the synths and effects kind of sound a bit like early Flock of Seagulls. There's drama, but it kinda meanders and doesn't go anywhere.
3. Dexter - "66" (5:48) -
Huge breakbeats. The main feature is a hip-hop sample worked over & over for the entire length of the track. Edgy, but after a minute or so, it gets a bit tiresome.
4. Volski - "Sound Of Distance" (5:36) -
Huge breakbeats and electro bassline, sharp percussive hits, spooky sci-fi synths. Think "Blade Runner" soundtrack. Interesting stuff.
