ALTERNATIVE COUNTRY / FOLK ROCK
Seattle-based Sera Cahoone played drums area bands Carissa’s Weird and Band of Horses. Here’s her fourth album as a singer-songwriter solo act. In addition to drums, she plays guitar, harmonica, and banjo. The songs are mostly about love: in all its hoped for, new, fading, lost, and remembered varieties. Accompaniment is keyboards, guitars, mandolin, fiddle, and bass. All the songs are good.
No FCC issues.
1 * Mid-tempo. Simple, pretty tune about gaining confidence. Guitars & organs. (3:08)
2 ** Slow. Just strummed guitar, then add piano, steel, fiddle, etc. Beautiful singing. (3:29)
3 * Mid-fast. Catchy but melancholy remembrance of a domestic-violence victim. (3:22)
4 * Mid-slow. Pretty folk melody, finger style guitar, banjo. Sweet & longing. (3:14)
5 Mid-tempo. Country dance tune. Honkytonk fun. Piano, good fiddle. (2:34)
6 Slow. Love is nearing its end. Sad steel guitar. Powerful instrumental bridge. (3:32)
7 Mid-tempo. Fairly straightforward love song. Very country: lots of fiddle. (3:18)
8 ** Very slow. Love is ending. Beautiful melody; gorgeous singing. (3:39)
9 Mid-tempo. Travelin’ song. Boom-chicka, locomotive rhythm. (2:48)
10 * Slow. Beautiful, sad ballad. Her lover moved out; she’s not over it. (3:06)
11 Mid-tempo. Easy going at first; gradually builds. Ends with a positive outlook. (3:51)
