Steven Malcolm/Steven Malcolm/Word Records
If you are looking for someone who can adeptly mix rap, trap, east coast boom bap, reggae, and pop on their hip-hop album, then Steven Malcolm is your dude. His beats are as diverse as his message, which makes this an interesting album to listen to – no lulls, no patterns. From track to track he gives you creative lyrical ear candy that is something different to hear and think about. If you like Fetty Wap or Christian hip-hop artists like Andy Mineo, Lecrae, and Social Club, then you’ll like this album. Fave tracks: ¬¬¬¬¬¬1,7, 10, 13 NO FCCs. Review by Kesha of LJH.
1. (3:27) Med-tempo, hype, with piano sample and rift. Changes feel from dramatic to intense.
2. (3:08) Synth accents, reggae/dancehall feel, slow/med tempo. Feat. Beam.
3. (3:19) Pure pop collaboration with Christian female pop artist Hollyn. Fun, weekend song riding in the convertible on the beach vibe.
4. (3:08) Ominous intro, slow. Intense feel.
5. (3:18) Fast upbeat. Feat. Hip-hop artist Pyrexx.
6. (3:58) Video game sound effects play through out. Med. Tempo. Sounds like a bit like Drake on this track.
7. (3:27 ) Old school sample repeats throughout, Med. Tempo.
8. (2:58) Distorted piano loop throughout. Ominous sound. Med tempo.
9. (3:37) An entire song about cereal brands. Upbeat, hard beat.
10. (2:43) Nice vocals by Scootie on the sung chorus. Thoughtful/emotional/intense “rap ballad.”
11. (3:04) Upbeat, reggae tinged beat with vocals from Papa San’s daughter Tasan.
12. (4:47) Nice piano intro. Guest lyrics by Joey Jewish. Med tempo piano throughout.
13. (3:11) R&B collaboration with female vocalist Blanca of Group 1 Crew. Med tempo.
