NEO-APPALACHIAN COUNTRY-FOLK
Out of rural Pennsylvania, Shannen Moser a singer-songwriter-guitarist with traditional folk and country influences. Her voice is a throw-back: unpolished, like in Appalachian old-time music. The music likewise is simple or “naïve” (in a good way) though the very personal, storytelling lyrics are novel and intriguing.
FCC issue in #5
1 Fuzzy field recording of a group singing a spiritual type song. Could seque into #2. (0:28)
2 * Mid-slow. A song about belief: in God, in love. Acoustic & elec guitar, trumpet. (3:04)
3 ** Mid-slow. Melancholy but hopeful ballad. Fingerstyle guitar & banjo. Nice vox. (2:25)
4 Slow. Reminiscence of childhood. Gentle. Lovely resonator guitar, keys & cello. (2:02)
5 FCC (“fuck”) Slow. Post breakup. Voice, strummed acoustic guitar, a bit of piano. (2:16)
6 Slow. Simple guitar arpeggio; a couple rim taps; title phrase sung twice. That’s it. (0:37)
7 ** Slow. Best song. Fine country vox with some warble. Nice fingerstyle guitar. (2:22)
8 * Mid-tempo. Grandma’s funeral prompts various thoughts. Guitars. (2:20)
9 Mid-slow. The weather’s changing so why aren’t people happier? Cute, whimsical. (1:26)
10 * Mid-tempo. A perfect little folksong. So sweet. Catchy refrain. (2:10)
