Let's Not Talk About Music is the debut album by Burlington, Vermont musician Joey Agresta. The East Coast version of Sonny Smith - he even sounds like him, but more in the style of lo-fi bedroom pop. Honest vivid songs from a very promising singer-songwriter.
Something else from the press release:
American home tape recording artist from Burlington, Vermont who builds all his songs with an eraserheadless tape recorder which does not afford him the ability to listen to the previously recorded track as he adds layer after layer of detail to his music.
RIYL: Sonny & The Sunsets, The Lentils, Emotional, Gap Dream and Son Of Salami.
FCC WARNING: 2, 4, 8, 10
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2 [FCC], 3, 4 [FCC], 5, 7, 9, 11
1. (3:59) * A Win Song For Bernie – Instrumental ambient piece a la Suicide.
2. (2:14) ** Don't Be Sad – FCC [Fucked, Shit]. Cool medium-up tempo crooner a la Sonny & The Sunsets. Too bad for the FCC violation.
3. (2:11) * Jerks – Medium tempo. Primitive rock with melodic taste.
4. (2:28) ** I Feel Like Shit and I Want to Die – FCC [Shit]. Medium tempo guitar driven recording. Sad melody. Perfect length.
5. (2:15) *** Baby Girl – Lo-fi rock ballad. 1960’s influenced. Slow tempo. Tender.
6. (2:53) More Than You Know – Medium tempo lo-fi soft rock piece. Very 1970’s AM radio.
7. (3:02) * I Won't Give Up [Featuring Palberta] – Another lo-fi 1970’s influenced soft rock ballad. Medium tempo. Love is all around us.
8. (2:17) I Give – FCC [Shit]. Medium tempo crooner. 20th century low-tech inspired exercise.
9. (3:07) ** Dream Of Love – 21st century Yacht rock. Medium tempo. Waves of love everywhere.
10. (2:32) I See A Light – FCC [Shit]. Medium-up tempo lo-fi slow rocker. Straight to the point.
11. (1:53) ** I Didn't Do For You – Medium-up tempo rocker. Jack Name meets Gap Dream meets early Brian Eno. Perfect length.
12. (2:56) I Want To Live Again – Cosmic ballad. Solid ending.
