DJ Female Convict Scorpion - Clash-Ups V [Reviewed by J-Simma] FCCs: None
RIYL:Steinski, Madlib, early DJ Shadow but wackier/stonier Feels cinematic and creepy with songs blending into each other. From John: “plunderphonics and sampledelia. strange loops and dialogue samples and atmospherics, off-kilter drums. Crazy loopy sci-fi vibes, off-the wall stuff, from the kzsu fave that brought you ""bill cosby talks to kids about drugs"".”
Favorite Tracks: 3, 8, 9, 11, 12
1) Daniel Johnston (4:26) - brooding, creepy cinematic intro track, like 1950s black and white/horror films
2) Gruppo Di Improvvisione Nuova Consonanza (1:46) - fast-paced violin, galloping jazz beat
*3) Bill Withers (3:26) - Slowed old r&b/soul sample on top of eerie spacey samples and erratic jazz
4) Miles Davis (3:39) - Classic funk beat + East Asian tones & vocals, turns atmospheric at end
5) Fairport Convention (4:55) - atmospheric and spacey, yet also earthy and meditative
6) Publicist (2:54) - dark 80s dance beat, creepy samples and robotic effects
7) The Police (3:44) - Light drums and atmospheric synths
*8) Good For Cows (3:57) - Erratic Jazz beat that devolves into chaos
*9) Ol’ Dirty Bastard (3:43) - Sped up Shimmy Shimmy Ya paired w/atmospheric harmonica
10) Robert Fripp (1:44) - Creepy rock-horror movie-climax vibes, lots of distorted guitar
**11) The Beastie Boys (2:51) - Classic boom bap drums with light spacey additions, feels like theme music to a detective show
**12) Eddie Murphy (4:14) Dance beat reminiscent of disco paired w/spacey bleeps and boops
