Which Way Is Home? is the debut EP by Brooklyn duo Turning Jewels Into Water. The instrumental music is a combination of Dub, 1990s trip-hop inspired electronic music, and urban field recordings. Quite dense, more on the ambient side.
Something else from the press release:
Turning Jewels Into Water, the deep-beat ceremonial think-tank that sees the coming together of percussionist/rhythm-prophet Ravish Momin and Haitian experimental electronic engineer Val Jeanty, are set to expose the contaminating realities of our dysfunctional, dystopian present with an infectious blast of Blade Runner-esque retro-future. Half-organic, half-machine, total binary breakdown.
RIYL: Late 1990s Warp Records, Talibam!, Tricky
FCC WARNING: 4
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, 3, 4 [FCC]
IMPORTANT: There are two formats for this record: CD and vinyl (record doesn’t include track 5). Plays at 45 RPM.
1. (4:39) **Which Way Is Home? – Slow/medium tempo. Dub track with looped vocal samples and trip-hop inspired rhythms.
2. (3:18) *Which Way Is Home? (Slikback Remix) – Slow/medium-up tempo. Less vocals and more rhythms. 1990s electronic music forever.
3. (3:36) ***Lights Below the Water – Medium-up tempo. Accelerated trip-hop. Solid sounds and vocals loops. Amusing voyage.
4. (3:48) **Vishwas – FCC [Oh Shit?]. Slow/medium-up tempo. Dub/techno track with looped vocal samples and trip-hop inspired rhythms. Cool piece.
5. (5:40) Which Way Is Home? (Zilla Remix) – Slow/medium-up tempo. Layers of looped vocals, vintage percussion sounds, effective distortion.
