Way-out desert guitar psych dub jams. Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar swung through Portland on his 2017 tour and recorded this off-the-cuff session with a Portland jam band. But don’t be fooled by that description, because this is not some dull Dead worship; it’s heady, raw, and dense. All long bliss-out tracks, moody, righteous. Favorites: 1, 3. No words, no FCCs.
1. *(15:54)—Medium-fast, spaced-out but propulsive. Pulsing organ, faded saxophone drones, and long, hypnotic guitar solos.
2. (7:24)—Slow, fully dubbed-out desert blues. Great for late nights.
3. *(14:54)—Loud gong and horn intro. Deep and thick hip-shaking bass, laser synths, funky sax, guitar shredding. Crank this.
