BEAST NEST - “Taste of India”
Third album from Oakland born and based BEAST NEST (Sharmi Basu) which is a really pleasant, ambient, and introspective feeling sounds. Two long tracks that feature tons of dynamic sounds. Experimental for sure, but really accessible in a way also in its ambience and healing vibes. Good for late night playing, or for a daytime set with music that’s pushing the boundaries of form in a fun way. Play track two!
Favorites: 2, for sure. They do an excellent job of making chaotic sounds soothing on this one.
FCCs: None!
RIYL: Alice Coltrane, Cocteau Twins, droning experimental new age music
1. Tired AF/Pluto - 18:57 - First two min are lots of ambient sounds; some gentle bleeping and some nice soothing droning bass tones; 2min in a bassline of sorts comes in; Ambient and open but with a sense of direction to it that feels like it’s building up to something. Lots of cool bird chirping sounds that makes me feel like I’m laying down in a park by a body of water, falling asleep, and hearing all type of interesting birds fly me. Things switch up and get a bit more ethereal toward min 10. Last few minutes get really nice and thick with lower end tones along with the ethereal sounds. Nice and lush!
2. Ganga - 14:42 - Very ethereal synth comes in immediately along with glistening tones; super heavenly vibes! Some drums come in periodically along with squelchy sounds. Keeps a really nice chaotic yet atmospheric vibe. Really cool percussive sounds around the 4min mark that continue on for several minutes along with spacey, ethereal, sounds. Gets heavier and sort of more intense/spooky toward the last half of the cut.
