Debut full-length release from Melika Ngombe Kolongo, a female Congolese electronic producer currently based in London. Kolongo co-founded NON Worldwide, a collective dedicated to the African diaspora and promoting music with a focus on decolonization and reparations. The seven longform tracks on this album are equally influenced by Kongo cosmology, gabber, happy hardcore and polyrithmic club music. A fascinating release, for fans of Lee Gamble, DJ Khalab, ZULI, Konono NÂș1, The Maghreban
All tracks FCC Clean. Try: 1, 5, 2
(*1.) (7:49) Deep bassline, choppy rhythm stick percussion, and blurry vocal snippets. Long, smooth pulses of synthesizer give this an almost vaporwave feel.
(*2.) (10:19) Clubby snares, booming gabber basslines with a bit of footwork shuffle. Slowly-unraveling synthlines and subtle repetitive vocal samples.
(3.) (4:11) Marchy snares over an intermittent skippy happy hardcore beat. Periodic changes in intensity. Ominous and frantic.
(4.) (7:42) Throbbing emotional synth lines, unrelenting pounding bass and chattery stickwork
(*5.) (6:08) Classic gloomy London electronic atmosphere. Hypnotizing polyrythms with murky waves of synthesizer and brooding basslines
(6.) (6:30) Punchy 808 and dense rhythm sticks over melodic ambient washes
(7.) (5:47) Staticky and cacophonous with wailing sirens and fuzzy blown-out basslines
