How to describe Moken? His warbling falsetto brings to mind Tiny Tim, but then there is also his speaking voice and his bass voice. He hails from Cameroon where Blick Bassy produced his first release. These are the “missing chapters” he produced years later in Atlanta. The words are mostly English but the vibe is beautifully West African,
NO FCC's; Favorite tracks: 1, 4, 5, 6
*1—Your sun is rising – 5:36-- rocking laidback beat with Moken's amazing voice-- bass and falsetto; with great treble wind instrument in the background
2 –Sometimes –6:17-- lovely flute intro – horns accompany Moken's sustained notes and vocalizations
3-- Yen Nin – 6:57 – bass guitar riff leads off; electronic ornaments hover pleasingly in the background
*4—Machine Man – 7:25-- the falsetto voice and bass voice seem to talk to each other with electric guitar doing a background melody
*5—Walking Man –4:40 – meditation, with horn and beat, on passing the homeless in the streets
*6—Mi amor – 5:03-- song written on the ngoni, calling out to his future wife, insistent beat with violin and horns; edgy
7—U nia—6:14 – gets into a groove and stays there with drum set and electric guitar and voice
8—Everybody wants to rule the world –7:15 – sixties vibe here with wailing guitar and political sentiments
9 –Retro Africa –5:38-- rock and roll beat with fun lyrics, trumpet, and wild laughter
10-- Hiki Mut –6:01-- finds another groove and stays there with laughter; “be happy”
11—Tequila song –4:28-- a ballad to tequila
12—Sing the song –8:03-- nice coda with more of Moken's cool grooves and amazing vocal qualities
