SOUL / R&B; FEMALE VOCALIST
Award winning Canadian singer Erin Costelo has a fist full of albums on Amazon, but none in our library. That’s a shame. She’s got a strong, soulful singing voice, that recalls other blue-eyed soul singers from Dusty Springfield and Christine McVie right up to Adele.
No FCC issues
1 Slow. Inauspicious start. Song shows off her range, but wanders aimlessly. (3:29)
2 ** Slow. Oooh.. skillfully channeling Smokey Robinson. This is sweet soul music. (3:11)
3 * Mid-fast. Groovy 60s beat. Good singing, fun electric piano, horn. This swings. (3:56)
4 * Mid-fast. Bouncy, jazzy verses with piano & flute; then a huge hook of a refrain. (4:24)
5 Slow. Eerie intro with just voice, bass, rim taps. Band joins and it warms up a bit. (3:42)
6 Mid-fast. Big, loud song, with big singing. Big organ bridge. I didn’t love it. (4:47)
7 *** Mid-tempo. Instrumental intro, then Erin enters with Adele-like power. Good singing, good lyrics, big hook, tight band, strong solos. Best track by a mile. (3:53)
8 * Slow to mid-tempo. Starts easy, then just grows and grows and grows. (4:25)
9 Slow to mid-tempo. The most “rock” song here. Doesn’t suit her as well. (3:43)
10 Slow ballad. Voice and piano. Sort of a “You’ve Got a Friend” but not as good. (2:57)
