A richly textured and dreamy "audiophony" from composer and poet tanner menard (they/them, Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas), structured around field recordings from San Francisco metro stations, performances on virtual piano, and waves of noise. The unusual tuning of the piano adds to the slightly warped, hallucinatory feel of the music. Gorgeous and not cliché about it. RIYL Fennesz, Celer, Forest Management, Bing & Ruth, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Conlon Nancarrow. All tracks are great, but try starting with 1 or 3. Hard to discern if there are FCCs on 2 (field recordings of speech).
1. *(9:37)—Jumps right in with slightly glitchy loop and piano sounds. A patina of soft, rippling noise. Ends as suddenly as it starts.
2. (17:33)—Very slow piano—swirling chords and strange echoes. High tones. Field recordings of distant conversations, BART sounds. Increasing noise and dissonance, beautiful drone. Quiet at -0:30.
3. (16:27)—Watery noise. Soft, high dissonance. Voice? Dense and complex shoegaze-noise, overwhelming and spectacular.
4. (9:16)—Deep, resonant, woozy piano chords. Grainy, vibrating noise.
