More than twenty years after disbanding in 2000, The Folk Implosion duo of Lou Barlow and John Davis has returned with a new batch of remarkable tracks making the cool, catchy vibe of their classic sound available again. Dare to be surprised.
Something else from the press release:
Lou Barlow and John Davis began their collaboration improvising acoustic songs onto a Walkman cassette tape recorder in 1993. The project quickly evolved from minimal, 4-track new wave flavored home recordings into a genre-spanning studio project, culminating in 1999 with their lush, sample-driven third LP, One Part Lullaby. The duo scored a top 40 hit along the way with "Natural One", from the soundtrack to the controversial 1995 film Kids. They disbanded in 2000. In a surprising pandemic twist, John and Lou reunited, remotely, in 2020. They began a collaboration that mirrored the beginnings of their friendship as penpals trading tapes in the early 1990s. Drum parts, bass lines, and guitar riffs were ping-ponged across the internet. Approximately a year later, they worked in person in Durham NC to bring two songs to completion. The single, self-released through John’s Inundation Records, cements and celebrates the band’s return to active status. The Folk Implosion will spend the rest of 2022 working on a full-length LP.
RIYL: Lou Barlow, John Davis, Sebadoh, Sentridoh, Duster, The Halo Benders

Recommended Tracks: All! Start with 1 and 3
1. (03:33) **** Don't Give It Away – Medium-up tempo. Killer track. Energetic and memorable. One of my favorite tracks of the year.
2. (04:12) *** Had Enough – Medium-up tempo. Another cool cut. Interesting instrumentation, noir vibe.
3. (03:33) *** Give It Away (Bollywood Rapids Mix) – Fast tempo. Rhythmic and hypnotic. Almost instrumental.
4. (03:21) ** Had Enough (Hitchhiker's Dub to the Galaxy Mix) – Fast tempo. Part dub techno, part ambient. Instrumental and voluminous.
