Local genius Josh Pollack, KZSU stalwart, drops yet another fantastical mashup of samples, music. Musical listenable and enjoyable while qualifying as experimental. This release contains some epic Nico massaging, Ry Cooder. Josh has frequented WNL, Day of Noise, demonstrating what one talented person can do with loopers, mixers, plethora of old school equipment, sans laptop, live. His other projects include “rock” outfits (Lake Millions, Three Leafs, Bob Saggath, et al.), but this does fall into the laptop sample art DAW realm. Great stuff. Songs blend seamlessly together, all good, play any.
1) (4:51) begins very dreamy, deep, echoey with “angelic” female voice, quickly turns spy soundtrack (music from a familiar TV game show or something…?) 2 (3:29) slow plodding drum, percussion. 3) (3:35) chill downtempo. 4)** (7:02) ry cooder guitar punctuates this chill dreamy soundscape that spotlights inimitable Nico voice 5) (9:54) pensive if downtempo gazey rock with cool guitar, Mancini elements, ends with strange cool experimental collage 6) (4:03) straightforward electro rock beat with sublime treated middle eastern voice, samples. 7) (3:40) middle eastern samples from previous float to top, spacey with harp-like loops, ambient 8) (2:56) mashup of doom, treated jazz, jolts out of previous track. Bill C. 5/22
