“Love As Projection” Frankie Rose
New wave and post punk dream pop. 6th solo studio album from the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who was formerly with the Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls and Beverly. This is Rose’s first album of new songs since 2017’s "Cage Tropical." The 10 tracks feature dreamy, silky electronic pop with new wave sensibilities, swirling atmospheric synths and jittering drum patterns.

Recommended: 2, 1, 8, 9, 6, 10. No FCCs detected.
1. (4:14) Sixteen Ways — Propulsive, pulsing soundscape layered with sparkling keys, driving drums and lush, repeated harmonies. ****
2. (3:44) Anything — Bouncy, bubbling 80s girl synth pop anthem. Harmonized lead vocals. Exceptionally catchy. The first single. ****
3. (2:55) Had It Wrong — Darker tone with cool, breathy vocals, distorted bass notes and a skittering drum line.
4. (4:47) Saltwater Girl — Deliberate tempo. Simple, torch-song-like lead vocals with heavily reverbed backing vocals. Soft, shimmering synths.
5. (1:50) Feel Light — Fragile, simple melody with vocals well back in the mix and playful synths layered in.
6. (4:09) DOA — Mesmerizing, staccato synth bass and intricate drum pattern supporting Rose’s vocal groove. Synths and harmonies swirl and swell. ***
7. (3:12) Sleeping Night And Day — Sweeter, with circular vocals and synths supported by a busy drum pattern.
8. (3:34) Molotov In Stereo — Heavily reverbed, dreamy and psychedelic slow walk — with Rose’s vocals and synth arpeggios rising and falling. Complex, chattering drum pattern interlaced with the synth waves. ***
9. (4:19) Come Back — Starts soft and dreamily, but builds into a gauzy, danceable electronic pop anthem. Bright synths and forward vocals. Thumping beat. Electronic slaps. ***
10. (4:17) Song For A Horse — Dreamy closer with ethereal vocals, plucked synths and techno waves washing over in rounds. Album title reference in the lyrics. **
