This is an unbelievable complete discography of LiliPUT (nee Kleenex), seminal (or should I say “uteral”) German lo-fi proto art punk/post-punk ’78-’83. This double CD proceeds chronologically through the evolution of this primarily female trio (or so). Rudimentary playing that relys on pure estrogen, spirit, and verve more than “skill” as we’ve been brainwashed to define it. Crunchy-clean guits, boomy overdriven bass and heartfelt passionate nasty-at-times vocal delivery. A distinctly female sound, with lots of “girl” shrieks and whistles, woo woos, pots and pans… These songs ring true and unique, earth-shattering to an earth needing of shattering. A priceless band worthy of a CD that amazingly does them justice. Liner notes worth reading.
CD1: tracks 1-10: Kleenex ’78-’79 3,7, 6 is “hit” made famous by Rough Trade comp back then
tracks 11-19 LiliPUT ’80, saxaphone appears on most tracks 12, 14
tracks 20-21: ’81, 20 strange drumming
tracks 22-24: ’81-’82 sax appears, music more cohesive and tamer somehow because of two guys
CD2: tracks 1-13 ’82-’83, by far my favorite era, back to the trio, percussive playing, interesting beats, sillyness, pretty, creative, great 2, 3, 4, all…
tracks 14-end: outtakes and other etc recordings, all excellent
