NATALIE MACMASTER Live
Cape Breton fiddling from one of the best. Disc 1 features MacMaster in concert with a 6-piece band. Music includes medleys of dances (both Celtic and otherwise) plus some beautiful slow airs. Disc 2 is just her, a piano, and guitar. The tunes are more traditional and were recorded at a square dance.
Disc 1:
1. Lovely slow air, picks up at about 4:30. Nice set of tunes.
*2. A lively set w/ lots of energy when the band joins in.
*3. A slow Italian folk song, a reel, a flamenco-esque fling.
4. Set of fast dances. Very nice.
5. Beautiful slow folk air w/delicate work from the band.
6. Another set of fast dances.
*7. A jig and a reel, nice use of backing percussion.
8. Slow air, then faster dances. Great fiddle solo at about 6:00.
9. Bouncy set of reels and strathspeys. Predictably well played.
*10. Crowd noise, rocking encore, cool dances.
Disc 2:
Recorded live at a square dance, features lots of shouts, claps, stomping, and general crowd noise. You really can’t go wrong with any track.
1. Crowd noises into 2.
*2. Nice jigs w/fiddle/piano.
3. More jigs.
4.Complex set of reels.
5. Some fun jigs.
6. Surprise! More jigs.
7. Reels, happy-clappy.
*8. Nice set of strathspeys & reels.
*9. Reels…the crowd seems to be enjoying them.
