STEPHAN MICUS - Towards the wind
ECM, 2002
WORLD ACCOUSTIC JAZZ FUSION
Stephan Micus' Music is so slow and melancholic, that it takes a little while to slow down your heartbeat and get in the mood for it.
Once you're there, it is quite a relaxing experience.
He writes and performs his music alone.
This album has been specifically composed for a few accoustic instruments from around the world, with emphasis on the armenian Duduk.
Fred's picks: 1, 2, 6, 7
01-03:33-Bass Duduk solo. The Duduk is a wind instrument that sounds somewhere between a clarinet and a tenor sax. Very melancholic sound and middle-eastern touch.
02-02:16-Kalimba solo.Metal tongue-based instrument from Tanzania that sounds like a glorified music box. Very delicate atmosphere.
03-08:48-Conventional flute, guitar, talking drum. Starts slow, drums come in after 5 minutes.
04-03:56-Duduk solo
05-07:35-Kalimba, duduk, shakuhachi, talking drum. Starts slow, drums come in after 1:45.
06-05:29-Accoustic (14 strings) guitar solo. Very slow, but quite good.
07-08:46-Guitar, male singing. The very melodic singing is the lead instrument.
08-10:32 Guitar, Duduk, Shakuhachi. A shame that this one only takes off one minute before the end (around 9 minutes).
