wow is this the same dude who was in the punk band X? this is so not-punk! the earnestness is practically dripping off the disc and the piano parts are just heartbreakingly beautiful. looking at the back, you'd think this is a cd of duets but don't be fooled - most of them are in there as backing vocals, which was a little disappointing. i liked the slow ones the best (#1 #2 #5 #6 #7). the more upbeat ones tend to be catchy but formulaic.

1. just the piano part alone is worth playing this track!
2. starts out twangy then gets loud (in a good way). juliana hatfield's in there somewhere but just barely.
3. i feel like i've heard this beat before. jane wiedlin on backup.
4. upbeat. aimee mann on backup.
5. slowing things down, acoustic-guitar style.
6. pretty piano and juliana on backup. nice and depressing.
7. pretty standard rock tune. sounds like a VH1 hit. jakob dylan on backup.
8. upbeat, catchy, but again, somewhat ordinary. rhett miller on backup.
9. another pretty piano ballad. can you tell i like that piano??
10. tinkly and sooo depressing.
11. short bonus track! just him and his guitar. simple and nice.
