The gimmick of this album is lounge covers of Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath songs, in a cheesy wedding-band singer style. I like the concept, and it sort of works; in my mind, it would be much better if it was not so aggressively and obviously a parody. The singer tries just a little too hard to sound loungy, so he’s loud and vibrato-y. It would actually be funnier and more re-listenable if it took itself more seriously and tried to sound like real music by itself. I’ve starred the ones I feel sound better as stand-alone pieces and don’t try too hard to be “funny.”

*1. Iron Man (Black Sabbath)—Bongos and saxes; a bossa nova/big band sound
*2. Paranoid (Black Sabbath)—Recalls the recent swing revival, sounds kinda like Brian Setzer Orchestra (or like “Jim Dandy”)—piano, jangly guitars, horn section. Scatting backup vocals. One of the most likeable cuts for its own sake.
3. Flying High Again (Ozzy) The cheesy wedding band sound: synthy piano, drum set, scoopy vocals. OK, though the lounge schtick (“hey, what’s your name, where are you from?”) is overdone.
4. Sweet Leaf--pot smoking sounds and hacking cough throughout. This is the “bar mitzvah” band style song--polka style, with reedy clarinet solos.
*5. Crazy Train (Ozzy) Muted guitar sounds, synth pop sound with supercheesy really loud synth beat. (Cha cha, says the liner notes.) Actually fun and poppy.
6. Suicide Solutions (Ozzy) Sounds like the demo song on your 1983 keyboard. Supercheesy sax solo.
*7. No More Tears (Ozzy) Easy-listening “smooth jazz” sound, with backup vocals. Piano, strings, percussion, saxes.
