Crime In Choir - s/t (Omnibus) This is some dudes from bands like At The Drive In, Hella & the Hades Kick all of whom I know nothing about (aside from the ‘fros that ATDI sported for awhile).
Regardless this is some pretty darn great jazz/prog rock...oh, OK hipsters “Math rock”! You’d be too embarssed & officially UN-cool to admit you like stuff that ‘s dervivative of say Mahavishnu Orchestra lest I mention Camel!
Not quite as brilliant as say... Yeti or Tarantula Hawk but certainlly getting there. All of these tracks are quite excellent, though.
((((1)))) Jazzy yet heavy prog-worship somewhere ‘round Hawkwind, Mahavishnu and some serious Magma worship on the drums.
(((2))) More jazz drumming madness crossed with some indie strum - hella (no pun intended) Slint meets Gary Numan (sans vocals) in Robert Wyatt’s (Soft Machine's drummer/songwriter, kids) West London pub circa ‘72. Groovy.
((3)) More modern “new wave” (or whatever the hell its called nowadays) spurts crossed with some bits of Yes’ “Long Distance Runaround” & some Trans Am meets Magma action, too.
((4)) Electro warbles & such with some repetitive low-end action. Mahavishnu crossed with King Crimson?
(((((5))))) King Crimson crossed with Kraftwerk & Rush! Most rad! (Ahhh make up yer own references if ya don’t like mine!).
(((6))) Opening notes were suuuuper-cool! Very
reminicent of the faster tempo section in Rush’s “Red Barchetta” then it gets all indie-noodly ‘ala Slint (just right for Nari’s “...and bands that sound like Slint” show!)
