Who’s Who of Bay Area experimental/noise/drone scene. “Mono” is solo and “Poly” is collaborations w/ the who’s who. Mono is very soundscape’ish, noisy drony digital. Poly is more varied as might be expected. Mills College folks like Fred Frith as well as local fave Wobbly are involved. Most tracks blend together; great soundbed material for spoken word, comedy.
Mono:
1) laptop noise, harsh
2) layered echoey spookier dronier turns blippier and electrical
3) higher pitched waves grow noisey
4) factory noise drone
5) blippy drony
6) random sound feel
7) denser, interesting sounds all over
8) dramatic feel, drone
9) creepy mechanical, treated
10) long, pitch
11) minimal rumble turns noisey
12) very low rumble, impossible to critique on the Caltrain
Poly:
1) strange vague rhythm, samples
2) more collage-like, weird vocalizations
3) definite media collage
4) live, real instruments, improv experimental
5) soaring spacy
6) fades in about as quiet as possible, basically silence for 2+ minutes, quiet spooky excruciatingly minimal, blends into next track
7) picks up where previous left off, minimal drones, sounds, blends into next
8) cont of prev, vol increases
9) Wobbly: near melodic synths, tinkly but builds to noise
10) looped medical type samples, more of an analog feel
11) harsh elements, feedback type
12) halting, difficult
13) drony, spacy, quiet mostly
