The Bell is clearly the most important track on this EP. It is a simple and beautiful song about the problems with the modern war paradigm (esp. Iraq). There are several different versions of this song on this EP, so you might like one of them. DJ Spooky’s remix (track 6) is nice for those who need some electronic beats and loops along with their anti-war music. The music is made up mostly by guitar/bass, violin/fiddle and the occasional sample.

1) The title track. Smith’s clear voice is offset nicely by Pete Seeger’s raspy voice. Dean Ween (of Ween) plays the guitar on this track.
2) Starts with a modem sample that seems to have gotten in by accident. Smith’s voice is not as clear on this track as on the Bell. It has a slight Bob Dylan quality about it. Acoustic guitar, violin, clarinet. 3) dark antiwar folk song. Only Smith and a guitar.
4) Again only Smith and a guitar. The lyrics are a continuation of the lyrics in The Bell.
