COLL: Decks & the City Vol. 1
Label: Takeout Records
This is a pretty good mix-CD by a couple of Irish guys out of NYC. Truth is, this sound can be heard in many a club here in SF, but there is a nice mix of old & new progressive house tunes here. Try: 1,4,5,8,12,14.
1. Derrick’s signature track; spoken intro, bangin’ beats, tech-y effects.
2. R&B male vox, funky groove, deep house
3. Dubby disco-funk, nice breakdowns
4. Nice piano loop, builts into pumpy house track, gets kind of trance-y
5. Techno-y beats, synths all pitched-up and warbly, female vocal sample
6. Dubbed-up house w/ a tweaky horn loop
7. Progressive house track w/ edgy bass, a bit dark
8. Bad-ass! Hard nasty beats & some street-chica talk. Tony Senghore’s hit track of 2002.
9. Trippy dubby house track, funky bassline
10. Simple synth loop, simple bass loop, old track but good.
11. Simple funky basslines & bumpin’ synths
12. Similar groove as 10-11, w/ space-y effects, then some acid-y tweaks
13. Echo-y vocal sample & reverbed synths
14. Starts kind of minimal, space-y synths, goes into some analog-retro-new-wave melodies.
