Tom Petty/Bob Dylan style vocals with lots of vibrato; nice Dylanesque lyrics. Blues/country/Nashville/folk on the brink of weirdness—acoustic guitar, bass, sometimes organ, or harmonica, or mandolin. Kind of a Tom Waits raw slightly tuneless aesthetic, or O Brother Where Art Thou return to the authentic simple country sound. Every now and then something in the background (usually the breathy female harmonies) tips the song into the bizarre realm.
1. (1:34) Stumbling step, drunken
*2. (3:32) plucked arpeggios, folky sound, breathy female harmonies, booming bass drums
3. (2:56) chugging train sound; vocal percussion, harmonica, rolling bongos
*4. (3:56) another chugging train with strummy guitar and lots of harmonica
*5. (5:31) laidback folksy guitar stroll, with churchy organ background; about an expired Georgia beauty queen
6. (5:19) hushed folky guitar, with eerie dissonant soars on the saw, and wavery female ahhhs
7. (3:16) chugging train with strong offbeats; driving tempo, bluesy rockin’ out
8. (3:32) quiet bouncy stroll, acoustic and voice, with vocal harmonies (out of tune)
9. (4:52) bluesy groove, with vocal percussion/scatting and blues guitar. Weird female wordless harmony
*10. (3:28) driving bouncy folky midtempo with fast strumming guitar and mandolin. Picks up tempo towards end.
11. (2:35) a cappella single voice, self-assured leisurely tempo
*12. (2:06) folksy country waltz, guitar and female harmonies; simple and pretty
