Local (Oakland) brothers sing pop songs that have varying levels of sweetness, melancholy, and humor. Most of the songs have the brothers singing in harmony, an acoustic guitar or two, and soft bass and subdued drums in the background. The Moore Brothers have been described as “The Byrds + Simon and Garfunkel + absurdist humor”. This album includes songs about “problematic relationships, marriage, and nuclear explosions.”
Pics: 7, 8, 4
1. very good, energetic; Sadly, it’s only 31 seconds long.
2. sweet / melancholy
3. slow and soft
4. psychedelic lyrics; the chorus is done in an interesting double-time reggae style
5. mid tempo; this is the song about marriage (from wedding bells to “scolds and nags” in one year)
6. mid tempo; soft acoustic guitars and glockenspiel
7. faster, playful music and lyrics; makes me smile
8. I guess this is the song about nuclear explosions; it tells the (humorous) story of falling in love with a conservative Christian woman.
9. mid; soft guitars with some good anguished vocal outcries in the chorus
10. different style – this song is over 5 minutes long (others are 2-3) and it “rocks harder than they have ever rocked”
11. interesting style of percussion, but bland lyrics
12. slow; reminds me of Simon and Garfunkle’s “Bookends Theme”
13. soft / slow / sad
14. mid; the drums and bass play more of a role in this song than every other track except 10
